Cat Containment at Crace
Friday, 16 September, 2011
You may have heard about recent changes to ACT Government legislation, which now require cat owners in new Gungahlin suburbs, including Crace, to keep their cats contained.
New ACT Government regulations have been announced that require Crace and other Gungahlin residents to protect native wildlife by keeping their cats contained.
The new rules are designed to protect areas that contain critical habitats for local threatened species including lizards, insects and birds that are prey to cats.
Crace is located near a number of these areas which contain special species, including the nationally vulnerable pink-tailed worm lizard and striped legless lizard, as well as several woodland birds which feed and nest amongst vegetation in the suburb and its surrounds.
Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do at Crace and that includes protecting threatened wildlife. If you have a cat, follow the regulations by keeping your pet indoors or building an outdoor run.
More information about how to meet the regulations can be found at www.environment.act.gov.au.
