Catch some Crace cheer this Christmas
Friday, 17 December, 2010
Local residents, staff and builders at Crace have been rallying to make Christmas cheerier for Gungahlin residents in need.
"As one of the Gungahlin region's newest communities, we feel a strong obligation to ensure we are supporting our neighbours and lending a helping hand where we can," says Crace Developments Sales Manager Melissa Martin.
The Crace crew has been collecting gifts for the Crace giving tree for the Salvation Army to provide to local children. The response has been terrific, with Captain Dale Brooks from the Salvation Army Northside Corps taking away a car boot full of gifts for distribution to local children.
Crace staff have also been collecting donations of non-perishable food for some weeks now and have received "bucket loads" according to Melissa Martin.
"We've been overwhelmed by the generosity of our residents and the surrounding community," she says. "Staff too have made a huge effort and we have an enormous quantity of quality food products that will really bring a lot of cheer to those who need it this Christmas."
The selection includes Christmas puddings and custards, shortbreads and biscuits, nuts and dried fruit. Even the family pets are being catered for with gourmet food for cats and dogs.
The team from the Gungahlin Child and Family Centre will receive the food and, together with Crace staff and residents, pack the goods into hampers and distribute them to families in need.
"We know our efforts will be rewarded come Christmas time when families who can use a helping hand benefit from the kindness of the community around them," Melissa says.
